GASTROSCOPY
SOMEONE MUST EITHER ACCOMPANY YOU OR IS AVAILABLE TO PICK YOU UP FROM THE APPOINTMENT AND STAY WITH YOU FOR 24 HOURS. We cannot perform a procedure without confirmation that someone will be accompanying you after. Sedation is given to keep you comfortable during the procedure. NO DRIVING FOR 24 HOURS – WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE
PREPARING FOR YOUR EXAMINATION: It is crucial for the success of your examination that your stomach is completely empty. Therefore, you MUST REFRAIN FROM EATING ANY FOOD FOR 12 HOURS AND FROM DRINKING ANY WATER FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED EXAMINATION. Following these guidelines is essential for a clear view during the procedure and to ensure your safety.

UNDERSTANDING EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy): An Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, commonly referred to as an EGD(or OGD), is a diagnostic procedure that involves the use of an endoscope—a slender, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light. This device is gently advanced through the mouth and into the upper portion of the digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine (duodenum).

The camera on the endoscope transmits high-quality, live images to a monitor, allowing for a detailed examination of the upper digestive tract. This procedure aids in diagnosing conditions, assessing symptoms, and even performing certain treatments directly through the endoscope.

By providing a direct visual of the inner linings of your upper gastrointestinal tract, EGD can help in identifying issues such as inflammation, ulcers, tumors, or infections. It is a valuable tool for evaluating symptoms such as persistent upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing.

Remember, this procedure is performed by a trained specialist in a controlled medical environment to ensure both accuracy and your comfort.
